The Falls have always possessed an instinct for writing infectious indie-rock anthems, but Loaded Gun reveals a band unafraid to venture into darker territory. Bigger, heavier and emotionally sharper than anything they’ve released before, it proves maturity doesn’t have to come at the expense of immediacy.
From the opening seconds, the Manchester four-piece lock into a relentless groove. The rhythm section drives the track with unrelenting urgency, while the twin guitars weave between crunching riffs and soaring melodic flourishes, creating a constant sense of momentum. Every element builds towards an explosive chorus that lands with genuine force—one of those rare moments that feels equally at home blasting through headphones or echoing around a packed venue with every word sung back.
Running beneath the hooks is an unmistakable feeling of tension. The song explores guilt, consequence and the impossible task of outrunning your own mistakes, with Harrison Sharp delivering one of his most compelling vocal performances to date. His voice carries equal measures of frustration and defiance, giving real weight to lyrics inspired by Martin Scorsese’s The Departed while making them feel deeply personal rather than cinematic.
Producer Luke Owens deserves credit too. Rather than smoothing away the band’s rough edges, the production embraces them. The guitars bite with real intent, the rhythm section hits with conviction, and there’s enough breathing room for the melodies to soar without ever diluting the track’s raw intensity.
As the third single lifted from the forthcoming EP Would You Do It All Over Again, Loaded Gun shows The Falls aren’t simply refining their sound—they’re expanding it. There’s a confidence running through every second, a band willing to push beyond familiar indie-rock territory without sacrificing the infectious hooks that first put them on the map.
Loaded Gun feels like the moment everything clicks into place for The Falls, underpinning their burgeoning reputation as one of Manchester’s most exciting emerging guitar bands. If this is the direction The Falls are heading, their second EP could be the release that propels them onto a much bigger stage.
