There’s a certain kind of indie anthem, that doesn’t ask for your attention, it demands it. On Dance Into The Night, The Azurescens step onto that territory.

Hailing from Livingston, West Lothian, the five piece, named after a psychedelic mushroom, released their first single, Middle Of Nowhere in 2022, and have since gone on to release a further 8 singles and last years Common Bond EP. The five piece tap into a rich lineage of British rocknroll, fusing the swagger of Oasis, the widescreen sonics of The Verve and the psychedelic shimmer of Kula Shaker.

But this isn’t nostalgia, it’s a reinvention, as Dance Into The Night, feels fresh, exciting and built for right now.

From the opening bars, the guitars shimmer, and a driving rhythm section that locks you into a groove that feels both hypnotic and euphoric. There’s a loose sun-soaked energy running through it, which instantly reminded me of The Coral’s Pass It On, but having The Azurescens twist on it, something more expansive and anthemic.

The vocals glide effortlessly over the instrumentals, striking a perfect balance between cool detachment and emotional lift. There’s a sense of escapism in every line, imploring you to let yourself go from life’s tribulations, which is really emphasised in the chorus lyric “Take time to reconsider, clock-face, broken mirror, step back and dance into the night” .

What really makes this song stand out, is the shimmering guitars. Layers of guitars swirl and expand, creating a psychedelic undercurrent, that subtly nods to Pink Floyd, whilst still staying grounded in a tight melodic core.

With this release, The Azurescens aren’t just wearing their influences on their sleeve, they’re shaping them into something bold, modern, and unmistakably their own.

An electrifying, psychedelic-tinged indie anthem, bursting with swagger, soaring melodies and shimmering guitars, Dance Into The Night, feels like The Azurescens, break through moment.

Dance Into The Night is released on Friday 8th May and can be pre-saved here.
