Dublin’s Taylor D, returns with her second single of 2026, Fake Illusion is her most fierce track yet, delivering a blistering indie rock track that touches on mental health, the lasting impact of bullying and the pressure to act like everything’s ok.

From the off, the song wastes no time in announcing itself. Jagged electrifying guitars crash in, alongside a pounding rhythm section, it’s relentless from start to finish.

But it’s the opening line that “Everybody hates me, but I don’t know why” that lands the first punch. It’s raw, unfiltered and direct.

What follows is a relentless surge of energy, wrapped in a high-octane indie rock shell. Taylor leans into a tension between perception and reality, turning self-doubt into a indie rock anthem.

“‘Fake Illusion’ is about the battle with mental health and the scars left by bullying. It’s
about the pressure to pretend everything’ s fine when inside, it’ s turmoil. We all have our
struggles, and this song is my reminder that it’ s okay to be real.”

The chorus lyric, “life’s a fake illusion” is powerful, defiant and a scathing swipe at the fakeness of social media, a world of filters and false perfection hiding the reality underneath.

Lyrically Fake Illusion doesn’t hold back. There’s a sharpness to the imagery, through lines like “My dress is red ‘cause they watch me bleed to death” cut deep, painting a stark picture of internal struggle under the glare of outside judgement. It’s uncomfortable, powerful and a real outpouring of emotion.

But what really elevates this song beyond being a angst-fuelled song is Taylor D’s vocal. There’s conviction in every word, a sense that this isn’t just storytelling, but a lived experience and therefore relatable to anyone who has, or is, going through a similar experience. The vocals soar about the instrumentals, cracking with just enough emotion to turn vulnerability into something real.

A mention as well for the stunning guitar solo that drives the song to its outro. It’s a soaring moment and one that demands you play air guitar.

Fake Illusion is a fearless indie rock anthem that acts as a statement of defiance against the pressures and false perceptions of social media versus reality. Taylor D transforms self-doubt into something loud, urgent and impossible to ignore, marking her out as one of indie rocks most exciting new voices.

Fake Illusion is released on Wednesday 6th May and can be pre-saved here.
