Birmingham’s Joe Wright has released his latest single of 2020 in ‘Way Out’ and it is a very catchy indie rock song.
The influence of the 90s Britpop scene are evident here and the opening guitar playing in this song reminds me of a couple of Paul Weller tunes (think the opening of The Changing Man and Sunflower) and thanks to its anthem like qualities this is the type of song that would have made its way onto an Oasis or The Verve album.
However, don’t think that Joe is just trying to write tunes that sound like his hero’s.
‘Way Out’ has a very catchy baseline, a guitar riff that gets into your head and has a brilliant and confident vocal which makes this song very powerful in its own way.
I’m personally looking forward to seeing what Joe will release in 2021 as this release along with ‘You Know I Know’ are fresh and exciting.
