Headwired are a four-piece indie rock outfit from the Black Country, and their rise has been nothing short of impressive. Since forming in late 2023, the band have already amassed over 125,000 Spotify streams across six releases — a remarkable achievement for a band still in its infancy. Their 2024 debut single Carousel alone has racked up more than 73,000 streams, helping secure support slots with Luka State, Spangled, and Camens, alongside a LakeFest appearance sharing a bill with Jake Bugg and The Libertines.
Now, Headwired are back with a new single, Head In The Cloud, which announces itself with intent.
The intro unfurls on a wave of sweeping, shoegaze-flecked guitars that immediately recalls the widescreen haze of The Verve — all drift, atmosphere, and emotional pull. It’s cinematic without being indulgent, pulling you in before the song properly locks into gear.
As the track develops, that dreamlike shimmer tightens into something more grounded and groove-led. There’s a melodic swagger at play that nods towards The Stone Roses, not through imitation but feel — that effortless swing where groove and melody carry the momentum.
Produced by Ben Harper — whose credits include The Mysterines, The Sherlocks, The Zutons, and The Kairos — at Liverpool’s legendary Motor Museum Studios, Heads In The Cloud captures the universal desire to escape the monotony of everyday life. It’s euphoric, melody-rich, and unapologetically Britpop-inspired, balancing atmosphere with immediacy in all the right places.
Vocally, there’s a raw, conversational honesty that suits the song’s introspective edge, floating above the instrumentation without ever losing touch with the groove beneath it. Headwired show real restraint here — trusting mood, melody, and songwriting craft rather than chasing unnecessary excess.
Head In The Cloud feels like a statement of intent from a band who are already absolutely flying. Rooted in classic indie DNA but delivered with clarity and confidence, this is Headwired proving that sometimes keeping your head in the clouds is exactly how you rise above the noise.
Head In The Cloud is released on Friday 16th January and can be pre-saved here.
