Girlbestfriend Daisy Peacock

Indie-pop upstart Daisy Peacock storms back with Girlbestfriend — a fizzing, razor-sharp burst of melody, sarcasm and emotional shrapnel that turns a messy first-year-uni situation into a three-minute empowerment anthem. Written quick, recorded quicker, and sounding like it kicked the studio door down to escape, this is Peacock at her funniest and fiercest.

Built from the kind of real-life chaos that everyone swears they’d never fall for — yes, that classic scenario: you’re seeing a boy… who also happens to have a “girl best friend”… who also turns out to be (spoiler alert) his ex — the track snaps with lyrical bite. Peacock calls it a “rage reliever,” and it shows; every line lands like a glitter-dusted punch to the gut.

Musically, it’s all sunshine with teeth. The production from Jamie Sellers (with recording help from Oli Roberts) wraps everything in bright indie-pop gloss, but there’s a tension under the shimmer — a knowing wink that sits somewhere between Taylor Swift’s storytelling and Olivia Rodrigo’s frustrated scream-into-your-pillow moments. That crossover isn’t accidental. Growing up in Sheffield and shaped by the 2010s wave of female singer-songwriters, Peacock has always married clever lyricism with addictive melodic hooks, and Girlsbestfriend is her sharpest strike yet.

What elevates the track is the personality. Peacock’s delivery flips from playful to pointed in a heartbeat — the kind of energy that makes you laugh at how ridiculous the situation is while remembering exactly how much it stung at the time. It’s classic Daisy: witty, self-aware, and fuelled by the kind of emotional honesty that has earned her praise as everything from “early Taylor Swift vibes” to “a funky 90s indie rock machine.”

And that rise is no fluke. Since earning top-10 recognition in Song Academy’s Young Songwriter Competition and Citrus Records’ Songs of the Year, she’s grown stronger with every release — gigging across the country with the likes of Alfie Jukes, daydreamers, and Blondes, plus appearances at festivals including YNOT and her beloved Tramlines. All of that feeds into a track that feels bigger, bolder, and bursting with confidence.

Girlsbestfriend doesn’t just hint at potential — it signals the arrival of an emerging star on the verge of a serious breakout.

Girlbestfriend is released on Thursday 27th November. Pre-save it here.
