There’s something unmistakably magnetic about a rising artist whose story already reads like a fanzine dream, and Jonny Blade is exactly that—raw, real, and already resonating. A northern lad through and through, Jonny’s blend of Sunderland roots and Yorkshire soul fuels every note, lyric, and moment of his burgeoning musical journey.
Jonny’s musical path started like many: in school, with a ukulele and an urge to do more than just cover the classics.
But it wasn’t long before things started to take an unexpected and exciting turn. Raised on his parents’ eclectic music taste and inspired by the likes of The Lottery Winners and The K’s, Jonny quickly began carving out a space of his own. A ukulele cover of Favourite Flavour posted on YouTube led to an invitation to perform onstage with The Lottery Winners at a sold-out Gorilla Beer Hall show—and that was just the beginning.
Moments like these kept coming. From chance encounters at gigs to being handed Thom Rylance’s guitar live on stage, rewriting the words to David Bowie’s Starman in tribute to George Baldock, which led to him performing in front of 28,000 fans at his beloved Sheffield United, Jonny’s journey has been as unpredictable as it has been inspiring. His debut single, Repeat Offender has nearly hit 7,500 Spotify streams and 2025 is already shaping up to be a big year, having secured support slots with The Lottery Winners and fast rising indie band The Clause.
Get Your Act Together, bursts open with highly energetic guitar riffs, layered over a tight, punchy drumbeat, instantly providing a breezy uplifting energy that grabs you from the opening notes and doesn’t let go.
The song has a real swagger about it and is packed full of high energy guitar riffs and hooks and a raw, heartfelt sincerity to the vocal, balancing vulnerability and grit, which provides real weight to the lyrics of this relatable story,
The electrifying guitar solo, is outstanding, really addictive that keeps you hooked and provides a hint at what direction Jonny is planning on moving his sound towards,
So, what’s the song about? In Jonny’s own words, it all started with a blurry, cider-fuelled conversation in a quarry with a friend- the very one is captured on the singles artwork.
That conversation led to a bout of self reflection and ultimately the tracks title. The song captures the uncertainty of youth, capturing that all-too-familiar feeling of wondering whether you’re really on the right track, only to realise that real growth takes time.
Recorded and produced by Sunderland’s rising solo artist Tom A Smith, the first song Tom has produced away from his own music, an experience that Jonny describes as “unreal”.
Get Your Act Together is more than just a catchy indie anthem, it’s a snapshot of youthful ambition, late night reflections and the growing pains that come with chasing your dreams. With honest, reltable lyrics, a vibrant melody and a real life story, Jonny deliver delivers a track that feels both personal and universal. It may only be his second single, but it’s a huge statement of intent from an artist that we will be hearing a lot of in the future. And I couldn’t be more excited.
Get Your Act Together is released on Thursday 24th April and is available to pre-save here.
