Liverpool indie punk band, This Is War! start off 2025 on fire with the release of two new tracks, one of which is a collaboration. Lucifer’s Party (which has been fully reviewed below), is high-class punk rock anthem, that wears its heart on its sleeve. Talkin’ Blues, a collaboration track with Sterlin (who describes his sound as EPR: Electric Punk Rap) is a tongue and cheek take on social inequalities. A rap response about those who are able to make the right decisions but never do!
Lucifer’s Party bursts onto the scene with an unapologetic energy that grabs you from the first chord. This Is War! deliver a high-octane track blending punk aggression with anthemic rock hooks. The driving guitars are razor-sharp, layered over pounding drums that create a chaotic yet controlled atmosphere, perfectly fitting the song’s rebellious title.
Vocally, there’s an intense, almost snarling delivery that matches the track’s sinister edge, with lyrics dripping in irony and defiance. The chorus is infectious, designed to get crowds shouting along, while the verses simmer with tension before exploding into full-throttle choruses.
“Heaven and Hell have flipped. Rich people starting wars that poor people fight. It’s about the death of democracy and I think it’s quite catchy. It’s about today. I mean we live in a world where Trump is president not once but twice…. Take me now!…And all I can do is write a little song.”
Frontman Paul Carden on Lucifer’s Dream
Lyrically, the song feels like a metaphorical dive into societal chaos, using the “party” as a symbol for hedonism and self-destruction. But beneath the surface, there’s a clever commentary on excess, power, and rebellion.
Overall, “Lucifer’s Party” is a bold statement—loud, brash, and impossible to ignore. On this track, This Is War! show that they’re not here to play it safe, crafting a track that feels both menacing and exhilarating. If you thrive on songs that are full of raw energy and unapologetic attitude, then This Is War! are the band for you
