London newcomers Payola formed at the start of 2024, in The Argyll Arms pub just off of Oxford street by Craig Edmonds (drums) Dave Farley (vocals) and Scott Forsyth (lead guitar), who united through their love of 60’s rock n’ roll, soul, 70’s punk, 90’s indie & Britpop. To complete the line-up they added Robbie Capel (rhythm guitar) and Matt Peel (bass) before locking themselves away to write and perfecting their sound, with the goal of releasing high-quality releases and add something different to a hugely exciting British guitar. Something that in two releases the band have clearly accomplished.
Their debut single, Born Out Of Frustration was released in August 2024, a song full of swagger, driven by pounding bass lines and brilliant guitar hooks. The track has racked up over 5k Spotify streams, in just 3 months.
The new single, The Way It All Begins, is a full throttle, high octane out and out banger, that really showcases why Payola are going to be a band to watch in 2025.
From the very start this song is full of hook-laden guitar riffs and infectious rhythms, that rise to a pace that never dips below thrilling, providing the song with its energy that feels both urgent and timeless.
The lyrics are reflective and poetic, evoking themes of risk, hope, and the cyclical nature of beginnings and endings.
The chorus is anthemic and unrelenting and feels destined for live singalongs. The instrumentals shine, thanks to the hook laden guitar riff and a driving bassline, that keeps you engaged throughout the song.
The Way It All Begins is a sublime song, packed full of swagger, raw energy and a rocknroll edge that will make you sit up and take notice. This track really hints at an exciting future for the bands future releases.
