Rising singer/songwriter Dylan Ward returns with his new single Face Like Thunder.
Dylan only began playing the guitar as something to keep him occupied during lockdown, which quickly developed into writing his own songs, which are full of honest and moving lyrics, telling tales of everyday characters.
Once lockdown restrictions ended, Dylan played several open mic nights playing a mixture of originals and covers. Word of mouth quickly spread and he started to make a name for himself in Hull, playing prestigious venues across the city and Yorkshire, before landing supporting slots with the likes of Sam Scherdel and The Cheap Thrills along the way.
Since those early beginnings, Dylan has released 4 singles (including Face Like Thunder) and his debut EP Misunderstood, with each release being extremely well received and earning critical acclaim in the process.
Face Like Thunder is a brooding, strong track that lingers long after the final note fades. From the first strum of the guitar, Dylan sets a melancholic yet captivating tone, inviting listeners into a raw emotional landscape. His voice, textured with vulnerability and grit, pairs effortlessly with the minimalist instrumentation, creating a stripped-back sound that allows the emotion to take centre stage.
Lyrically, Face Like Thunder taps into feelings of anger, frustration, and quiet despair. It’s a track about internal conflict, the weight of unspoken emotions, and the often stormy aftermath of relationships. Dylan’s lyrics are beautifully introspective, yet vague enough to allow listeners to project their own experiences onto them, making the song feel deeply personal and relatable.
The instrumentals on this track are really tight and you gain a real appreciation for the attention to detail that has gone into the track. This is perfectly demonstrated through the stunning guitar solo at the mid point of the track, along with the outro that mirrors the growing intensity of the song’s theme.
Face Like Thunder is a powerful and emotional track that showcases Dylan’s ability to craft a mood and soundscape that is instantly relatable and is a testament to Dylan’s growing artistry.
Face Like Thunder is out now on Spotify.
