North Shields 4-piece, Club Paradise have released their eagerly anticipated EP Life On TV, that’s packed with anthems galore and it’s a huge statement of intent.
With influences ranging from Bryan Adams and The Killers, Club Paradise have been together for over a decade and consist of two sets of schoolboy friends Ryan Young (vocals/guitar), Nathan Hogg (drums) Jackson Vert (lead guitar) and Harry Webb (bass). Club Paradise first started releasing music back in 2018 and have recorded recognition from John Kennedy on Radio X and Jack Saunders on Radio 1, critical acclaim from CLASH magazine and sharing stage with Magic Gang, Mystery Jets, The Future Heads and Katy J Pearson.
The EP features six tracks: 4 previously released singles that have been released throughout the year, plus two new tracks, Here’s the ThisIsTheMusic track by track review:
Let Me Loose is a high energy anthem, thatseamlessly blends indie rock with 80s synth pop flair. The track is full of driving guitar riffs and rhythmic beats that complement the catchy, melodic vocals. You can hear the influence of bands such as The Killers and The 1975 throughout, on their sound, but Club Paradise have put their own stamp on that making it fresh and exciting. The hooks are infectious and the chorus is designed for a big singalong.
Chasing The Summer is a highly infectious track that seamlessly blends elements of indie rock and synth-pop, evoking both nostalgia and a sense of youthful optimism. The instrumentals are polished, with shimmering synths layered over punchy guitar riffs, that create a vibrant atmospheric sound. It’s a bright nostalgic anthem that makes you wish summer could last forever.
“It’s this notion of seeing what life is like but growing up 20’years later and in being in a completely different world we could prepare ourselves for”
Club Paradise on Life On TV
In an EP full of high points, What If These Days is undoubtedly a standout. The instrumentals are upbeat with reflective lyrics pondering the pressures of modern day living and fearing that life might not live up to expectations, but offering plenty of encouragement about navigating adulthood in a fast paced world. The soundscape is bouncy, catchy and engaging that will have you toe tapping throughout.
Runaways captures the essence of youthful rebellion and the urge to ‘runaway’ from the pressures of normal life and find freedom. The track is packed full of soaring guitar riffs, anthemtic melodies and an infectious energy. The vocals are fantastic, covering a wide range effortlessly and the holding of the final note is jaw dropping stuff. The pairing of the harmonies is a clever addition and adds depth to the bands and shows a band wanting to keep pushing themselves.
Years is a a reflective song track built around a soaring guitar riff and an upbeat rhythm section making this a real earworm of a song.
Interstate offers a different soundscape to whats appeared previously, offering an atmospheric sound, which is reflected in the steady rhythm, which in my view is a great way to finish off an EP. The lyrics continue the theme of escapism, freedom and searching for meaning as an adult.
The band’s infectious energy and thought provoking lyricism make Life On TV a brilliant listen. It taps into disillusionment about growing up in a world far from the picture portrayed in the media. The combination of indie pop rock sensibilities with synths is really addictive and shows exactly why Club Paradise are a band to watch.
