Following on from the critically acclaimed debut single former Columbia frontman Craig Lewis returns with bold new track.
Having spent the last four years as the frontman and songwriter of Welsh outfit Columbia, Craig Lewis returns with his second solo single under the guise of Those Heavy Souls.
Having built up a loyal fanbase thanks to the release of Columbia’s debut album Embrace The Chaos, that was loaded with rocknroll anthems, and the rousing anthem Together Stronger, celebrating Wales’ first appearance at the football World Cup in 2023, Craig has shown multiple sides to his songwriting talent.
Whilst Columbia disbanded, music is in Craig’s soul and he has spent the last few months, writing, road testing new material and recording, (with producer Andrew Sanders and Small Miracles guitarist Steven Kenward at Kings Road Studios, Cardiff) which has led us to his solo project Those Heavy Souls.
The debut single Everything’s Changing, (check out our review here) was extremely well received and gained plenty of radio play across the UK and the second single is highly anticipated (ThisIsTheMusic will be playing it exclusively on Thursday 22nd August).
How High’s Too High is a bold departure from the guitar anthems that defined Columbia’s debut album.
This song sees Those Heavy Souls embrace a more rhythmic, dance-oriented sound and it’s fantastic.
The pounding drums provide the track with a relentless energy giving the track a hypnotic, almost trance-like quality. It’s a song that’s pulsating with energy, blending indie-rock with electronica that sounds both timeless and refreshing.
The production is great, with layers of sound that build and swirl around Craig’s powerful vocal, which whilst being the focal point of the track, doesn’t overpower the instrumentals.
How High’s Is Too High is a fantastic track and the sign of an artist who is passionate about music and not afraid to push their sound into a different direction, whilst maintaining the anthemic sound that Craig was known for in Columbia. It’s a track that invites repeated listens to fully appreciate its depth and layers, whilst being instantly captivating and a song that you’ll be dancing around to.
How High’s Too High and it’s b-side Hold Onto Fear is released on Friday 23rd August
