Derby band Marseille return with their ‘magnum opus’ of a single “If It Hurts, Don’t Cry” from their highly anticipated EP “GODIVA”.

Forming in 2021, Marseille consist of Will Brown (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar); Joe Labram (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals) Lennon Hall (Rhythm Guitar/Backing Vocal), Will Sabey (Bass); and Tom Spray (Drums/Percussion) and have cemented their status as one of the most exciting bands emerging on the new music scene.

If It Hurts, Don’t Cry is heartfelt and a reflection on what could have been, before exploding into a euphoric, inspirational wall of guitars and strings.

At a time when artists are writing three minute songs, Marseille are boldly ripping up the rule book and releasing 6 1/2 minute musical epics, quite literally blowing audiences away with their swagger and quality musicianship throughout the band. For that they should be applauded as they are doing things on their own terms.

The tracks opens up with a melodic acoustic guitar, before a majestic slide guitar hook and crisp drum beats, lead us into Will’s angelic and magnificent vocal.

“If It Hurts, Don’t Cry has been an idea that has been in the tank for a while. It was a gorgeous ballad, but I had never figured out how to round off the song. The day it came to me I took it to the lads, and it blew everyone away. A sign of a great song.”

The addition of the stunning string section is another bold move by the band and the calmness they bring to the track ahead of the explosive guitar riffs, which have an early Oasis swagger about them is fantastic and they dovetail fantastically, allowing each the space to show off, without overpowering the over.

The stage is then set up perfectly for the bands guitarist Joe Labram to deliver some of the finest guitar riffs you are likely to hear. He is a master of his craft, making the guitar sing it just seems so effortless. Joe is currently unrivalled with his guitar playing on the new music indie scene, and in years to come he will, much like Hendrix, Page and Craddock, be revered as the finest guitarist of his generation.

Lyrically the track is packed with real emotion and feeling and yearning for second chances, which intertwines perfectly with the explosive and energetic guitar riffs representing a sense of optimism going forward; a relatable narrative and an ever growing maturity in their songwriting.

The new Marseille single will provide the band’s ever growing fan base with plenty to admire and an infectious Verve psychedelic rock sound. Marseille continue to deliver timeless classics that leave you awestruck at the talent on display. With a sound as big as their ambition, Marseille are what the world is waiting for…

If It Hurts, Don’t Cry is released on Bubblebrain records on Friday 26th July.
