Former Columbia frontman Craig Lewis returns as a solo artist under the guise of Those Heavy Souls.
Having spent the last four years as the frontman and songwriter of Welsh outfit Columbia, Craig has an impressive discography behind him. From the release of a debut album loaded with rocknroll bangers in Embrace The Chaos, to writing the spine tingling and rousing anthem Together Stronger, celebrating Wales’ first appearance at the football World Cup in 2023, Craig has shown multiple sides to his songwriting talent.
Whilst Columbia disbanded, music is in Craig’s soul and he has spent the last few months, writing, road testing new material and recording, (with producer Andrew Sanders and Small Miracles guitarist Steven Kenward at Kings Road Studios, Cardiff) which has led us to his solo project Those Heavy Souls (a fantastic name I’m sure you’ll agree).
The debut song, Everything’s Changing is released on Friday 3rd May and it’s one of the finest displays of indie rock that you’re likely to encounter this year.
It’s full of thumping drums, driving rhythms and set against a backdrop of hypnotic and energetic acoustic guitars that channels the sound of Britpop whilst bringing a fresh modern twist to the genre.
The melody is boisterous and is led by Craig’s powerful vocal, before a rousing chorus, that will be stuck in your head, reflects on life changing fast and the need to adapt, despite not wanting to, rather than continuing to live in the past.
The track is beautifully produced, with a kaleidoscope of sounds filling the track throughout, which builds to a stunning percussion led finale which takes a source of inspiration from Mancunian legends Doves and There Goes The Fear.
Everything’s Changing is a highly infectious indie rock anthem that sees Those Heavy Souls display excellent musicianship throughout. With the promise of more new music on the way, 2024 is set to be a very exciting year.
Everything’s Changing is released on Friday 3rd May.
