Fresh from their sell out headline show in the main room at Leadmill, Sheffield 5-piece Matilda Shakes come roaring into 2024 with the re-release of the fast-paced rocknroll anthem Fast Lane.

Featuring James Hallam (vocals and guitar), Joel Haddon (drums), Jack Poulson (guitar) Sean Yeardly (bass) and Joshua Whitehurst (keys/guitar), Matilda Shakes are one of the most exciting bands emerging on the indie scene, making them a band to well and truly watch. In the space of a few short months, 2024 has already been an incredible year. From selling out the main room at The Leadmill, to announcing festival appearances at Tramlines and Rocknroll Circus, their first UK headline tour and their first London date in November with ThisIsTheMusic: there is no stopping the Sheffield 5-piece.

From the very beginning Fast Lane is full of energy and drive. The powerful guitar riff hits you like an F1 car racing down the home straight, and is backed with rousing drums and thumping bass lines that provide the song with its drive and energy that will surely go down a storm at this summers festivals.

James’ passion for F1 really comes across in the songs lyrics and his powerful vocal delivery results in his best vocal performance to date.

“100mph and your in spin oh no, there’s only one way this race is going to go”

The track is highly addictive and it’s energetic and uplifting from the start. The guitars pack a punch and it’s energetic approach will leave you breathless.

The relentless pace drops off momentarily in the middle eight, which is a real clever piece of musicianship (think of it as a quick pit stop) before exploding back into life with the anthemtic chorus that you’ll be singing back at the top of your voice.

Fast Lane is a high octane, electrifying single that packs an almighty punch. It’s a real earworm of a song and is a huge statement of intent from a band that are set for the biggest year of their lives!

Fast Lane is released on Thursday 18th April and can be pre-saved here.

Fast Lane was played exclusively on the Rise Of The Indie Artists show on Thursday 11.4.24. Scroll to the 16th minute to hear the track!

James and Joel were guests on episode 56 of the ThisIsTheMusic Meets Podcast back in February 2023.
