The Rogues are a 5 piece indie rocknroll band from Newport, South Wales. Forming in 2021, The Rogues consist of Andrew Flannelly (Lead Vocals & Acoustic Guitar); Rhodri Eley (Lead Guitar & backing vocals) Ben Slade (Bassist); Alex Ainsworth (Lead Guitar); James Mundy (Drummer). They spent 2022 relentlessly rehearsing, writing and gigging across Wales and England growing their fan base, through word of mouth and their energetic floor filling indie anthems.
Across 2023 they’ve released 3 singles: the rousing and euphoric anthem Lissy (16,376 Spotify streams) the infections summer anthem Skinny Dipping (5,903 Spotify streams) and new single Nice To Say Hello (2,253 streams since its release on 10th November). They’ve received radio support from BBC Radio Wales, via the ‘Welsh A-List’, and MOTD-Wales and receiving regular radio play on the ThisIsTheMusic Rise of The Indie Artists show.
The new single Nice To Say Hello was released on November 10th and it’s a heartfelt and emotional gem of a track.
The song starts off with a rhythmic guitar pattern intertwined with a catchy bassline and drumming pattern before a fantastic, melodic and emotive vocal joins in, which becomes the focal point of the song, without overpowering the other accomplished musicianship on display.
Lyrically, Nice to Say Hello is a gripping song about losing someone you love, the feelings of loneliness, and the emotions of frustration and confusion that can come with it.
With the verses describing an individual who feels like their whole world is in a spin, the powerful chorus, is in complete contest, possessing positive lyrics that show that over time, things can get better.
“It would be nice to say hello, just for one day, and catch me on my own, whenever you say, it would be nice to say hello”
The piercing guitar riff that leads into the final chorus has an almost soulful feel, before one final outpouring of emotion in the infectious chorus, sets the tone for a fitting finale for one of the best songs you will hear this year.
Nice To Say Hello is a classic indie anthem. Full of sublime melodies, it’s an instant toe taper and lyrically it’s a song that will will be relatable to many.
The Rogues are one of the most exciting bands emerging on the new music scene and it’s clear they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in 2024 and beyond,
