Ryan Redwood is an up and coming solo artist based in Lowestoft who draws inspiration from the likes of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Blossoms and Courteeners.
Having been a frontman of two local bands, the covid pandemic gave him a time to reevaluate his musical direction and in 2020 he embarked on a solo journey which has seen him release five singles, steadily gaining recognition, with the the highlights of 2023 (so far) being support slots with Corella and The Reverend and The Makers. He is also set to support Twin Atlantic on a string of UK dates, (details below) which will support the release of his debut EP Twenty Something Romance, which is set for release on Friday 17th November.
Across the EP we see see moments of tenderness and a heartfelt and authentic side of Ryan, highlighting his artistic progression.
Here is the ThisIsTheMusic track by track preview:
Everything is a great opening to the EP. It’s upbeat, full of energy and backed with subtle drumming and melodic hooks. It’s packed full of shimmering melodies and initially it’s a song celebrating everyday life, cherishing working class roots, before expressing a desire to leave a stagnant and boring life.
Are You Missing Me is as catchy as they come and is an instant foot tapper. With a passionate vocal intertwined over acoustic guitars and striking drums, Are You Missing Me is full of relatable lyrics on being loved and and missed by an ex lover “when you’re all alone are you missing me?” asks an emotional Redwood. A standout track on the EP.

Away is driven by an opening acoustic guitar and subtle hooks and showcases Ryan’s knack of writing relatable lyrics with an infectious chorus, matched with accomplished musicianship. The outro features a delightful bit of feedback and shows that this is an artist prepared to try new sounds.
If You Need Me is an acoustic tune, accompanied by Ryan’s tender and heartfelt vocal. It’s a simple sweet song written in the form of a love letter to the person you love and is a gem of track that will be relatable to many.
Twenty Something Romance is a brilliant debut EP full of relatable lyrical content and messages and outpouring of emotion at every turn. It will really put Ryan on the map and see him gain a whole bunch of new fans in the process.
Twenty Something Romance is due for release on Friday 17th November and can be pre-saved here.
