Hazy Sundays return with their 7th single in just 12 months, an incredible feat when you consider they only formed in August 2022, when they release Wires on Thursday 12th October.
The Glasgow 4-piece, consisting of Shaun Kenny (Vocals and Rhythm guitar), Mark Devlin (Lead Guitar), Ross Mcdonald (Bass) and Pete Cannon (Drums), have risen to prominence with their brand of electrifying indie rocknroll, that’s full of swagger and wears its influences of its sleeve. They’ve recently supported indie legend, Reverend and The Makers on their acoustic tour, gaining a new following in the process.
The new single sees Hazy Sundays release an emotional and heartfelt acoustic ballad, that’s a tribute to frontman Shaun Kenny’s late mum, who passed away with cancer.
Wires showcases Shaun’s fantastic songwriting as well as the quality of musicianship within the band.
You can hear the emotion pouring out of Shaun’s vocal throughout the song and you can’t help but feel the agony and pain he’s gone through. The ease in which he has been able to switch his vocal from the energetic rocknroll songs we’ve heard from the band so far, adds further testimony to the quality of musicianship within the band.
The song starts off with a strummed intro and a haunting guitar hook, before Shaun’s vocal takes centre stage and is joined by the bass and drums. Each instrument is there to support the emotion from the vocal and Hazy Sundays have done a great job in achieving that.
The rolling guitar solo is spine tingling stuff and adds another layer to the emotional content of the song and really pulls at the heartstrings.
The song builds to a a stunning outro with moving strings and catchy guitar hooks and just shows the attention to detail that the band have gone in producing this song.
Wires is simply a stunning song. It takes you on an emotional journey and really pulls at the heartstrings. The emotion is evident and really comes to fore. The playing on the track is subtle and fits into the narrative of the song and for me shows why Hazy Sundays are one of the best bands around. Their journey has been an exciting one so far and I’m predicting big things for the band in the near future.
Wires is released on Thursday 12th October and can be pre-saved here.
