56 SHABBAH

Sheffield indie rockers, SHABBAH have released their second single “56” today (29.9.23), a melodic and heartbreaking tale taking place in a rough area of the country.

The 4 piece consisting of Seth Smith, Sami Bates, George Allen and Lol Bailey formed towards the end of 2022 and received great traction and hype with their debut single Pub Kid, a song that has great storytelling and relatable lyrics that has nearly amassed 4k Spotify streams and playing out gigs in iconic venues in Sheffield and the Dublin Castle in London.

Kicking off the song is a catchy guitar riff that draws you to the song immediately and gives a real upbeat feel to the song.

Lyrically 56 is an observational and nostalgic look at city life and trying to find the positive in a place that doesn’t necessarily have much positivity going for it. It’s really descriptive and takes you on a journey of city life in a northern town.

“People shooting fireworks at half past three in the morning”

As I’m sure you’ve guessed, the songs title 56 is the number of a local bus route, which has been used as a metaphor for describing loneliness as a child: namely the bus holds good memories for many, but the realty is that the bus was unreliable.

The guitars chime throughout the song and the chorus will be stuck in your head, ensuring you are singing along all day. It has a great melody and it reminds me of indie legends Milburn, in terms of sound and those storytelling lyrics.

56 is a great release from SHABBAH and after just two releases you can see how accomplished their sound is and the quality of musicianship within the band and they are set for big things. I for one cannot wait to see where they go from here!!
