White Novels is the project of Glasgow based singer songwriter Jack Bestow. During lockdown, White Novels quickly established themselves as one of the most sought after and exciting bands on the new music scene, emerging via an online streaming gig (Sam’s night), that featured The Snuts and Lewis Calpadi.
Having released four singles, On The Bottle; Over Again; Closer To You and California, that were extremely well received, Jack, took an indefinite break from music to focus on his mental health.
A year after the release of California, Jack was on the lookout for a backing band to play a series of gigs, which has led to the first new release in nearly two years.
The wait has been well and truly worth it. Circles takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, from growing up, reflecting on relationships and breakups and the impact this has on your mental health.
The song was co-written by Jack and former bandmate Tam Kane at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and although reflecting of those times, is song that fits any moment in time.
The song is full of heartfelt emotion, as it tells the story of a boy, growing into adulthood and battling his mental health. The desires to have a perfect life, whilst facing challenges of alcoholism and a poor relationship with his partner.
Circles will take the listener on a real journey, and by the of the song, the man realises that life is sometimes best when alone, and taking some time to recover is the best option.
Circles is driven by a stunning piano piece that really adds to the sweeping nature of the track, before an sweeping guitar riff leads us into an anthemic chorus that is full of emotion and passion.
As someone who first listened to White Novels on the stream for Sam’s night it’s truly fantastic to have Jack back writing emotionally charged and relatable songs. Circles is a song that will connect and resonate with its audience.
White Novels are undoubtedly one of the best emerging artists from Scotland and now is their time to shine.
