Serotonin, is the latest anthemic release from Southend-On-Sea indie rockers, San Quentin.
If the release of new music wasn’t enough, the band have announced details of their debut EP Feed The Ego (25th August ) and a one off headline show at The Moth Club, in London (1st September). The EP and tickets, with various bundles are on sale now.
Forming in 2019, when songwriter Liam Cass and singer Owen Eves got together with drummer Luke Johns and bassist Nick Keep in 2019, before completing the line-up in 2020 with lead guitarist Dan Ridgwell joining, San Quentin have established themselves as one of the most exciting rising talents on the UK indie scene.
Since releasing their debut single, Laughs on You, in 2021, the band have continued to release rousing anthems, packed full of energy and always giving fans shows to remember. They’ve made their major UK festival appearances at Isle of Wight and Y Not festivals, sold out a 400 capacity venue at Chinnerys in Southend (check out our review here), before going on to play London’s iconic Water Rats, as a headline band on two occasions.
The new single, which has been a staple in the bands live set for a number of months, is already a firm fans favourite and I’m delighted that Serotonin has been released.
It’s a rousing anthem, with a strong emphasis on heavy guitar riffs and dynamic drums to drive the song forward, creating powerful sound.
The song kicks off with early Verve feedback, before these crunching heavy guitar riffs lead us into the emotive vocal, which is highlighted in the spoken word vocal and gives the feeling that the band have gone in a slightly different direction on this single.
On all previous releases, San Quentin have the happy knack of writing catchy, euphoric choruses that pack a real punch and Serotonin is no different as frontman Owen sings:
Tell you all my dreams, Now they’re falling apart, Don’t know where to look, They were flawed from the start, Don’t know what to say, Since you came and stole it, Has anyone got any Serotonin?
With the song inspiration forming after Liam overheard a conversation at a festival where someone asked “Has anyone got a spare bit of serotonin I can borrow?” San Quentin continue to release songs that are instantly relatable to its ever growing fan base.
With their debut EP, Feed The Ego set for release in August, San Quentin are continuing to create a buzz with each song they release. They’ve created a sound that’s honest, energetic and carries a real swagger that leaves you wanting more. San Quentin, are truly brilliant and are set to be the next big thing on the indie scene.
Serotonin is available to stream on Spotify here.
Feed The Ego is released on Friday 25th August and can be purchased as a bundle package with tickets to the EP launch party, at The Moth Club on Friday 1st September. Further information can be found here.
