Smokin Eskimo are a 3 piece blues and rock band from from Bilston, West Midlands and consist of Chris on guitar & vocals, Jake on drums and Jim on bass.
Influenced by 60s psychedelic rock and blues, 90s britpop with a smattering of jazz and funk, Smokin Eskimo are truly unique and have plenty of variety to their songs which ensures they don’t fall into one specific category, which in an era when people are very quick to give people labels, their approach has to be admired.
The Universe of Kind To Me marks the bands 10th release, since 2020s debut single Dynamite and sees the 3piece on fine form.
Irrespective of the how the song sounds, you are always guaranteed a great melody, exciting riffs that will get you off your feet and excellent musicianship. The new single delivers all of that, plus plenty of passion and energy.
The Universe Is Kind To Me opens up with a 60s influenced garage rock guitar riff that packs a real punch, before thunderous drumming and a chugging bass line, provide the song with its energy and is guaranteed to have you dancing around to.
The vocal is fantastic, really strong and snarly in places, without ever overpowering the sound of the song.
The blues influenced guitar solo, which bridges the gap between the first chorus and the second verse is majestic, full of swagger and sees the drum tempo quicken before being brought back down again ahead of that second verse.
The final guitar solo, which leads us into the songs outro, is hypnotic and adds further weight to the quality of musicianship on display across the song.
The Universe Is Kind To Me sees Smokin Eskimo on fine form. It’s raucous, loud and possess fine melodies that will have you instantly toe-taping along. This is a big statement from the 3-piece and will leave you wanting more.
