DARLINGS are a four piece band from Bishops Stortford consisting of Steve Marriott on Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, Bailey Burnett on Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals, Liam Hunt on Lead Guitar and Cameron Burnett on Drums.
2022 proved to be a big breakthrough year for Darlings, who played at Standon Calling Festival, released their debut EP, Another Lovers Game, went out on their first UK headline tour with This Feeling (every night sold out), before going on to be announced as “Big in 2023” by the renowned tastemakers, before being added to the line-up at Truck Festival.
FYI sees Darlings continue on the momentum built over the past 12 months and the upbeat anthem is set to be a fan favourite that will have you toe tapping and singing along to from the very first listen.
The song starts off with a catchy guitar riff and thumping drum fills that lead us into the vocal, before being stripped back to guitars and vocal, which is melodic and heartfelt.
The lead guitar riff has a shoegazing/atmospheric feel about it and really channels the spirit of Ride and Jesus and The Mary Chain, whilst tapping into that influence and putting their own stamp on that iconic sound: mesmerising and uplifting.
Lyrically this is a song about being in love and the feelings this provided after doubting if such a feeling would exist.
“For your information baby, you came out the blue and saved me, and I bet that all your best friends hate me, cos you’ve been living in my daydreams”
The track builds to a crescendo of thumping drum fills, guitars with the lyric almost sung like a chant “FYI you saved my life, I don’t known why, FYI” which I’m sure will be seen as an opportunity to have audiences sing this part back to the band, before one final rendition of the chorus, which features just the vocal and guitar, which sounds beautiful and is a great way to end the track.
FYI is a fantastic song from Darlings and full of soaring melodies and sees the 4-piece continue with their rich vein of releasing songs that are instant toe tapers with relatable lyrics. 2023 is going to be the year where Darlings put themselves right at the forefront of the new music scene. Their forthcoming gigs and festival appearances are ones not to be missed.
