Derby 5 piece continue their ascent to the top of the UK indie scene with the release of their debut EP, Freedom.
Having received rave reviews for their debut headline UK tour, Marseille have wasted no time on maintaining their momentum by releasing their debut EP, which is full of the bands trademark swagger and blistering rocknroll anthems whilst showing tender moments too.

Freedom is the EPs opening track and what a delight it is. It’s trademark Marseille. Fast paced full of energy and with catchy guitar hooks and soaring guitar solos. Will’s angelic vocal sees him steel the limelight on a track that means business.
It’s Only Just Begun, sees Marseille channel their love of 60s Mersey beat, with 60s psychedelic added into the mix. It’s full of jangly guitars, with highly addictive guitar hooks. The chorus is extremely catchy and provides real singalong moments.
Thinker was the bands most recently released and it’s a stonewall classic. It’s heartfelt song accompanied by glory strings and great harmonies. Yes the comparisons with Oasis’ The Masterplan are inevitable, but Marseille have taken that influence and turned it into a total masterpiece of a song. It’s incredible to think that this song was written when Will Brown was 13.
Lost and Found sees the band pick up the tempo and sign off in real style. Lead guitarist Joe Labraum’s guitar solos are scintillating and really showcase him as being a master of his craft. The rhythm section does a great job in holding this track together and the tightness in their playing is there for all too see.
Freedom is an explosive and exciting EP and you’ll do well to find a better EP this year. It’s full of high energy guitar riffs, pounding drums and thunderous bass lines, capped off with Will’s angelic vocal. It’s full of hope and anticipation about what lies in the times ahead whilst having plenty of swagger and making the EP highly addictive. Marseille have undoubtedly released one of the EPs of 2023 that will seem them propelled from rocknroll contenders to rocknroll stars.
