Marples are an exciting 4 piece indie band from Sheffield. Forming in 2021, the band consist of Joseph Neville (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Thomas Martin (backing vocals and lead guitar), Joe Kneale (bass) and Luke Fieldsend (backing vocals and drums).
Initially playing open mic nights in their native Sheffield, playing a mixture of covers and originals, the band released their excellent debut EP In The Attic, and has seen the band play a number of sold out shows across the country.
I’ve Been Shown is the bands first release of 2023 with the band eager to build upon the the momentum gained in 2022 and make a big impact.
Starting off with an infectious and jangly guitar riff, that provides the platform for the melodic bass line and drums I’ve Been Shown is a song that will be instantly stuck in your head and will be a big hit with fans and newcomers to the band.
The jangly guitar riff gives the song a real show gaze feel about it, but there’s so many more layers to this track. The vocal is fantastic and the harmonies provide further insight to the quality of musicianship within the band. The drumming is relentless without overpowering the song and the melodic bass line intertwines with the jangly guitar riff perfectly that is highly addictive and will keep you hooked.
As a first single proper, this is a great tune from Marples, full of fantastic musicianship and glorious harmonies throughout. It’s not a 100mph song, but the energy and drive within the song is evident throughout and you won’t find many better guitar riffs this year.
