Caught Live: LOCK-IN 8.4.23

Hertfordshire indie rockers LOCK-IN played the biggest night of their lives at London’s The Garage and delivered a storming set that will live long in the memory and in years to come will be one of those “I was There Moments”.

Having released their first single, Teenager, just before the global pandemic, all signs have pointed to the band headlining this venue at some point. To do that within two years is the stuff that dreams are made of.

Playing to a sold out crowd (500 capacity) the anticipation was oozing throughout this famous old venue, that has previously seen indie legends The Rifles, The Twang and The Strypes headline, plus numerous club nights held by This Feeling.

Bursting out of the traps with an unreleased song in Easy and Vandross, before a quick microphone change saw the crowd burst into a chorus of “LOCK-IN are massive everywhere they go”, before Insecure and Know The Score kept the crowd bouncing.

The set was relentless and packed full of emotion and added to an incredible atmosphere that saw each song sung back to the band by an audience that were literally in the palm of the bands hand long before they entered the stage.

With songs full of relatable lyrics, covering love, happiness, heartache and being a teenager without a care in the world, they speak to people of their generation, whilst reviving memories for fans of an older generation. Being able to unite such a wider audience is a special quality that not many bands are able to achieve.

A special night from a band that I’ve supported since that very first single release. The confidence within the band continues to rise with each gig and and they truly are on fire right now. The scary thing is, is that despite their undoubted brilliance and an envious back-catalogue of indie anthems, LOCK-IN haven’t even hit top gear yet. With a headline tour around the corner in June, LOCK-IN are on the cusp of something great. They are ones not to miss!

Support on the night came from San Quentin and Spangled, with both bands proving to be perfect support bands for the night ahead.

San Quentin opened up the night, delivering a set full of their trademark energy and sounded on great form. Opening with new tune Sereotoni, that has been a feature of the bands recent live gigs, they raced through their set, which included new single You’re Lost (which frontman Owen Eves ensured full crowd participation), Laughs on You and fan favourite Step Off. A great band to start off the night.

Spangled are a band I’ve wanted to see for a long time and I’m delighted that I did. They brought plenty of energy and on stage showmanship but also demonstrated how tight they are as band too. Playing fan favourites such as Greenhill Superstar, Good Life Better Cosmic Vibrations they managed to get the crowd well and truly warmed up before the main event.

LOCK-IN’s new single “Do You Like Good Music” is out now on all streaming and download platforms.
