Hold the front page Scottish band Vida are back with a new line up and a new single to boot!
Having formed back in 2013, Vida were originally a 5-piece consisting of school friends Jamie Pollack (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Nathan Evans (Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals) along with Craig Scobbie (Bass), Jamie Piggot (Drums) and Greg Ballantyne (Keyboards).
Vida left a lasting impression on the music industry, leaving us with classic singles such as Fade Away (over 1 million Spotify streams) that catapulted the band well and truly into the spotlight as one of the most exciting bands on the new music scene.
During Vida MK I they played on Soccer AM and gained the attention of Steve Craddock who offered to record fans favourite Where We Came From. This led to further singles being released including Let You Believe and When The Sun.
In 2017 they supported The Sherlocks, headlined their own UK tour and played prestigious festivals such as the Isle of Wight and Reading and Leeds.
Then in 2019 they split, leaving fans (including this writer) wondering what might have been.
Fast forward to 2022 the urge of playing live was proving to be irresistible. They played a local secret gig, retaining original members Nathan Evans, Jamie Piggott and Greg Ballantyne, with 3 new members joining in the form of Colin Davidson (Lead vocals/Guitar) Jacob Franklyn (Guitar/vocals) and Evan Cameron (bass guitar).
However the phoenix has well and truly risen from the ashes. They played a secret local show before Christmas and are now set to release a new single and there are plenty more great things coming too, all of which will be revealed in the near future.
So the new single Different Storm is released on Friday 10th March and it’s Vida at their absolute finest.
Opening with a melodic chiming guitar, great drumming and keys, as soon as the vocal joins in, you know instantly it’s Vida with a twist – that twist being it’s now a 6-piece, there’s keys, strings and it’s glorious.
Colin’s vocal is really powerful and the backing vocals on the chorus adds to the song’s atmospheric vibe.
The songs chorus is really catchy and will be sung back by audiences up and down the country when the band make their highly anticipated return to the live scene.
“You say it’s biblical when the lights come on you bring a different song”
The guitar riff after the chorus is huge and scintillating and has the swagger of Britpop, but it’s fresh, exciting and instantly captivating.
Whilst they’ve remained true to the original origins of the band, Vida MK II have also honed and added their sound, which is great to see.
The song builds to the mid section, where the thumping bass and drums begin to build the song back up, whilst an almost hypnotic chanting leads us to the songs final chorus, before blending into the outro led by that scintillating guitar riff leaves you wanting more.
Vida have returned with a biblical comeback single full of great melodies and swagger. They are determined to make up for lost time and are exactly what the worlds been waiting for.
