Blackpool indie rockers Alright are set to release their Life of Nelly, their first single of 2023 on 26th February.
Since forming back in 2021, Alright have released 6 singles, played a sold out show at Blackpool’s Bootleg Social, supported The Skinner Brothers and Rats, getting regular plays before Blackpool Football Club home games, featuring on Sky Sports Boxing and gaining support from Pet Shop Boys. A mighty impressive beginning for the Blackpool 5 – piece that consists of Joe Darnell, (Vocals), Matt Bunnage (Rhythm Guitar), Joe Platt (Lead Guitar), Brad Mills (Bass) and Liam Smith (Drums).
Their new single Life of Nelly is an emotional tribute to a band members Dad and takes you on a journey through the life and times of Nelly.
Rhythmic acoustic guitar opens up the track and acts as the perfect accompaniment for Joe’s vocal which is full of emotion and really captures the mood of the song.
Lyrically this is a relatable song, that will resonate with many who have experienced the loss of their Dad. There are plenty of highs and lows in the song, sparking plenty of emotion.
But despite the subject matter, this isn’t a sad song. It’s powerful, upbeat and a real celebration, epitomised by the song’s chorus, which sees a great, almost marching like, drum beat and a fantastic guitar solo that gives the song a real celebratory feel about.
The songs final chapter is really emotional and is led by a spoken word instructor of what to do when the ending comes.
“I’m not afraid to die, when I do spend nothin’ on the funeral, it doesn’t need to be fancy, I’ll be dead. Play these three tunes and I’ll be happy, and make sure you have a proper party…For me!”
The Life of Nelly is full of emotion and is a fitting tribute to a person that left a lasting impression on everyone who came across Nelly.
Alright are a band that continue to make a lasting impression with every song they release and they are set for a big 2023.
