Gallahers Green Young Man’s Game

Gallahers Green are a four piece rocknroll band hailing from Manchester, whose influences range from the 60s up to the present day including Oasis, The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters and many more.

Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Jon Olphert from County Antrim, Northern Ireland and bass player Ian Gallagher from Oldham met whilst serving in the Royal Air Force in Iraq in 2008. The pair discovered a love of music and although they were were playing in different bands remained in touch.

Whilst at a Guns ‘N’ Roses concert in 2017, they both released they were without a band and decided to form Gallahers Green. The inspiration for the bands name came from an old brand of cigarettes called Gallaher’s De Luxe Green made by the Gallaher Tobacco Co in Northern Ireland. As a child Jon would hear local people refer to them as Gallaher’s Green and the name resonated with him.

Since then, they’ve added Tom Stretton from West Yorkshire on lead guitar and Tom Leather from St Helens on drums, recorded a debut album (Lucky 13 has amassed over 160k streams on Spotify) and raised over £1,000 for the RAF Benevolent Fund with their single Memphis.

The new single Young Man’s Game is the bands take on the state of the music industry right now. With established bands/artists like Liam Gallagher and Foo Fighters at the top of the industry playing arenas and stadiums (and rightly so in my opinion) the labels continually ignore the next generation of bands/artists. Instead the labels and commercial radio push bands with younglads singing inane songs about twitter with zero distortion coming from their jingly jangley stratocasters.

The lyric ”I listen to your music it’s driving me insane, everybody saying it’s a young man’s game” directly addresses this and in my view is something that I have seen happen on a fairly regular basis.

Young Man’s Game continues the band’s theme of not being afraid to speak their mind and bring some personality to their music, something that I personally like in my music.

The music in the song is one that will grab your attention immediately. The opening riff is direct meaty and in your face. This riff forms the backbone of the song, with plenty of soaring lead guitar riffs (that wouldn’t sound out of place in arenas/stadiums) thumping drums and a great vocal.

This song is really powerful and energetic with plenty of soaring riffs, groovy rhythms and deep bass lines and really captures what Gallahers Green are all about. A rocknroll band with great tunes, plenty to say and not afraid to say it. There’s been a real revival in British guitar music over the past 2 years, it’s time for Gallahers Green to have their time in the spotlight.

Young Man’s Game is released on Friday 17th February and can be pre-saved here. The bands second album Dare To Dream is scheduled for release on 31st March.
