One of the most highly anticipated gigs of the year (yes I know it’s only January but it’s true) happened at London’s Old Blue Last, last night (28.1.23): it was a bustling and busy night that was brimming with excitement and anticipation of what was to come. With fans coming from as far as San Francisco and Austria you get a real sense of understanding as to the impact that The Heavy North have had on so many people since forming in 2019.

Supported by The Native Tongue, who delivered a storming set, The Heavy North delivered a sublime set and demonstrated why they are one of the most exciting bands in the country right now: and why it’s time for the industry’s big hitters to take notice.

A set that showcased the bands outstanding debut album “Electric Soul Machine” including fan’s favourite “Darkness In Your Eyes”, “She Gets Me Higher” and “Satisfy You”, it truly was a set to behold.

The crowd were truly “up for it” and The Heavy North well and truly delivered an explosive set that had the crowd rocking and singing back each song word for word and really reinforced the love in the room.

Tonight’s gig really reinforced my feelings when I saw the band at The Dublin Castle last year; they are a great live band who have crafted their live sound to perfection. You wouldn’t have known that this was their first gig since their huge hometown headline show last year in support of Electric Soul Machine.

Throughout the set the band displayed breathtaking instrumentals, which included some great “jams” and showcased the band being at the top of the game and looking like they were having the time of their lives.

As part of the set, The Heavy North debuted two new songs. Where Are You Now? and Round Again. Where Are You Now has a real groovy bassline and is an instant foot stomper, drawing inspiration from The Rolling Stones. Round Again explodes into a 60s garage rock vibe, accompanied with harmonica and Jerry Lee Lewis inspired keys: and on this first outing, I think it’s going to be my favourite The Heavy North song yet.

From a personal perspective it was great to see many people from the Twitter community who have done so much to support new bands/artists and really show that new music is alive and kicking!

In summary, this was a fantastic gig, that will live long in the memory of those that were there and really cements why The Heavy North are one of the best bands around. With several gigs coming up over the next couple of months I strongly recommend that you get out and see The Heavy North as they won’t be playing these small intimate venues for much longer!

The Heavy North are set to play 3 dates as part of the 10th Anniversary for Independent music venue week as well as a 4 date tour in May. All remaining tickets can be purchased from the bands website (link below).
