Having released their explosive debut album in 2022, The World In High Definition, Derby Indie rockers The Mease, return with their exciting genre blurring new single High Definition (You Ain’t See Nothin).
Featuring rapper Council Cut and beatmaker The Dread Kaili, The Mease have well and truly pushed the boundaries of indie music and delivered a track that will have you hooked instantly.
Sampling the music of “High Definition”, which featured on The Mease’ explosive debut album The World In High Definition, the track has a great energy and is mixed in with a hip-hop beat that will have you hooked from the moment it kicks in.
But don’t be thinking that The Mease are going in a completely different direction. There are plenty of guitar hooks to please the indie kids, along with nostalgia vocal melodies that will keep listeners listening all day long.
Lyrically the song is full of relatable lyrics as the song looks at the obsession of social media, as the band explains
“We had the idea to take this wicked instrumental piece from our album and turn it into a full track. It has a hip-hop vibe about it, so we got in touch with Council Cut to put a rap on it. He was diggin’ the tune and came up with this verse about how people obsess over their social media persona. The tune is about how you just see the world through a screen these days which is a bit messed up. But it’s alright as long you get the badge in! It’s definitely a bit genre defying but we like to keep pushing the boundaries with our tunes. It’s the mod way isn’t it – keep innovating, keep surprising people.”
High Definition is a mash up of Beck-meets-Plan B with John Squire guitar riffs combing to give us a infectious melody that sounds great.
The band have taken a gamble by adding hip-hop beats and a rapper to the song as it’s not something you’d usually associate with an indie band. But it’s a gamble that was fully worked and resulted in a truly fantastic song that will knock you off your feet when you first hear it.
High Definition (You Ain’t Seen Nothin’) is die for release on Friday 20th January and can be pre-saved here.
