Basic State are an exciting 5-piece indie rocknroll band hailing from Cardiff, who are determined to make a dent in a thriving Welsh music scene and beyond.
Having released their debut single You’re In Town in 2021 as well as a fantastic cover version of Verve’s The Drugs Don’t Work, Basic State, consisting of Harvey Sivell (vocals), Iestyn Wegener (bass), Billy Saffill (guitar), Adam Shore (guitar) and Sam Saunders (drums), spent 2022, rehearsing, gigging and writing consistently, perfecting their sound and getting themselves ready for 2023, which is certain to be action packed.
The result of that hard work is there for all to see with their first single release of the year in Far Too Soon, an energetic upbeat anthem, that is extremely catchy and is sure to cause utter mayhem when it’s played live.
Kicking off in a wave of feedback before exploding into life with a punchy guitar riff and thunderous drumming, that really drives the song throughout along with rumbling bass line. It sounds fantastic and so accomplished.

Basic State
The soaring guitar solo and riffs are a highlight in a song jam packed with them and the chanting backing vocals in the outro and a great addition.
There is a real swagger in this track, it’s catchy and upbeat and full of hard hitting melodies, intense drumming, soaring guitars and a great vocal.
It’s a strong start to 2023 for the Cardiff 5-piece and sees the band lay down a huge marker for what’s to come. I can’t wait to see what the band have got up their sleeve next.
