The Malakites: Morning After

Welsh 4 -piece The Malakites set to release belting new single Morning After.

2022 was a real breakthrough year for the Cardiff indie rockers, with the release of their indie anthem Only Sometimes, reaching nearly 6k Spotify streams and a string of raucous live dates that have gone down a storm and gained them a reputation of being one of the most exciting bands from the Welsh new music scene.

Consisting of Jacob Webber (vocals and Rhythm Guitar) Ashley Smith (Baggley) (Drums) Thibault Sergrott (Teabag) (Lead Guitar and backing vocals) Daniel Rizzo (bass), The Malakites are building upon the momentum gained from their scintillating end of year gigs and exploding into 2023 with the release of their new single, closely followed by a headline show at Cardiff’s CLWB IFORBACH.

The new single, Morning After, due for release on 5th January, carries on true to their style and sound, filled with huge energetic vocals and anthemic lyrics, create a sound that instantly hooks you in.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for new music from The Malakites and this single has been well worth the wait.

Opening with a melodic chiming guitar, before exploding into life with a thunderous drum beat, rumbling bass lines and punchy guitar riffs that ups the tempo and drives the song along at a fast pace. It sounds fantastic, with every band member getting the chance to showcase their considerable talent.

The track is packed full of melodic and soaring guitar riffs that provide a real euphoric feeling and compliments the strong vocal perfectly.

The track is full of swagger and is upbeat bright and catchy. The melody is one that will have you toe-taping along in an instant and is a song that will go down a storm when played live.

Lyrically the song explores the ending of relationship and how they deal with the aftermath of that in the morning after. The chorus lyrics are relatable and capture the mood of the song in an instant.

“Welcome to the morning after, she’s got a new man you fool. And I’m just waiting for the next disaster. And I’ve got nothing to say to you. And I’m just wasting my time being an idiot cause I’ve got nothing else to see

Morning After is a fantastic song and had me hooked instantly. It has a great sound and is now firmly my favourite Malakites release. I can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in their locker and strongly recommend that you give this a listen upon it’s release.

Morning After is released on Thursday 5th January and can be pre-saved here.
