The Azurescens hail from Livingston in Scotland and burst onto the new music scene at the start of November, with their debut single Middle Of Nowhere. Now the indie 4-piece consisting of Gaz (guitar and vocal), Andy (guitar and vocal), Brian (bass and vocal) and Jai (drums), end the year in fine style with their second single Light From Dark.
The track sees the band take a departure from the anthemtic rocknroll sound we saw on Middle of Nowhere keeping fans and reviewers on their toes. However, one thing that I can guarantee is that it’s another fantastic tune that shows another side to the band.
There’s a great catchy melody, accomplished musicianship and full of passion and dedication their craft.
Light From Dark sees the Livingston 4-piece drop the pace and for the most part has been stripped back to an acoustic guitar, drums and vocal.
The song opens with a hint of swirling psychedelic feedback, which reminds me of early Verve, before a catchy guitar hook and acoustic guitar drive build us up to the verse and chorus, before the catchy guitar hook kicks in, which has an almost haunting like sound and sounds superb.
The vocal combines fantastically with the guitars that really chime and the rhythm section is hypnotic and addictive that you will want to listen to again and again.
The track is full of relatable lyrics. In an age of a culture that is driven by social media and needing to have “everything” now, the lyrics, which almost sound like a conversation, say “yes it’s great to have hopes and dreams, but take your time, achieve them at your pace and in your own time, I will always be here for you”
“Have no fear, you know that I’m here for you”
The songs outro is simply stunning. Led by this soaring guitar hook, it is a sound that belongs in arenas and stadiums, which is only a matter of time before they reach those heights.
This is a fantastic tune, with brilliant lyrics and a great attention to detail with the musicianship. The Azurescenes have released a really refreshing single, that sets them up very nicely for 2023 and beyond.
Light From Dark is released on Friday 16th December and will be available across all streaming and download platforms.
