Shambolics end a stellar 2022 with a punchy ear-worm of a single, What’s Going On In Your Head, released via Scruff of The Neck Records.
The Scottish 5-piece have have a mighty fine year, which has seen them support Britpop legends Cast and Embrace, the legend that is Richard Ashcroft, embark on their own nationwide headline tour, along with festival slots at TRNSMT and Stockton Calling, the band have also signed a record deal with Manchester tastemakers Scruff of the Neck Records.
In-between all of that exciting stuff, they’ve found the time to release 3 excellent singles that will be in the mix for people’s songs of the year countdown and is amongst the bands best work to date.
The new single, What’s Going On In Your Head, follows hot on the heels of recent single Like A Breeze, and further demonstrates why this word of mouth group, who have put in plenty of graft over the past 5 years (I’ve personally witnessed this first hand), are set to be Scotland’s next big thing.
Kicking off with an driving drum beat that fills the track with energy and provides the track with a real upbeat feel.
“What’s Going On In Your Head is about someone trying desperately to get out of a bad situation and bad habits, but can’t avoid falling back in to them again. We’ve seen this happen to people around us and everyone probably knows someone that it’s happened to”

The catchy, hypnotic and addictive lead guitar riff will draw you in, as it swaggers in and out of the pummelling drum and bass rhythms. The guitar solo is scintillating and the keys that back it up, have a 60s R&B feel about them.
“Everything we do revolves around the live performance and how a song we write will go down with the crowd. We love experimenting and being creative in the studio, but that’s only half the story for us. Our shows are a collective experience, so if a song gets people going mad at a gig then we’ve got a winner”.

What’s Going On In Your Head is a really addictive track, and has the bands trademark swagger about it. As you’d expect from The Shams, it’s rammed with a great melody, powerful vocal, great harmonies and an energy that lifts you from the opening drum beat to the end of the song.

The band are supporting indie legends The View on Monday 12th December at Inchyra Arts Club and on Friday 16th December at 02 Academy in Glasgow. They are also set to headline PJ Mollys in Kirkcaldy on Friday 23rd December in aid of the Kirkcaldy Foodbank. Tickets for all 3 gigs have sold out.
