The King Rooks set to to release their stomping new EP
The King Rooks are a 4 piece alt indie/rock/post-punk band from Kent consisting of Jacob Blackman on Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar, Jack Pawlica on Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals, George Axon on Bass Guitar and Matt Cotter on Drums.
Since releasing their first singles, which has received critical acclaim from some of the industry’s big hitters including Abbie McCarthy and radio play in America on DJ Rodney Bingenheimer’s The Underground Garage Show on SiriusXM, the band have been relentlessly rehearsing and recording their debut EP, which is set for release on Friday 2nd December. Each track is full of the bands trademark: riff filled anthems, with catchy choruses and melodies that get stuck in your head.
Here’s our track by track preview of The King Rooks debut EP.
I’ve always been of the opinion, that the opening track of an EP needs to be explosive, one that grabs your attention and draws you. On Where’d You Go Baby, The King Rooks have delivered exactly that. It’s post-punk at its finest with huge anthemtic and energetic guitar riffs, relentless drums and infectious lyrics “Where’d You Go Baby, I Wonder where you are now, Where’d You Go Baby, did we make it back somehow?” The vocal is full of passion and emotion and soars above the raw energy that the band have created.
“Where’d You Go Baby” is a song written about the first time Jack met his now wife, Paige. She approached him in a club, pretty drunk and stated that if he “didn’t like The Smiths they couldn’t be friends”. They spent the night chatting and hanging out, only for Paige to reply slowly to text messages the next day, causing Jack to feel like he’d been blown out. 10 years later, I guess he was wrong. It’s a song about meeting that girl that you get the feels for instantly, and then not being able to get her off your mind.”
The King Rooks on the inspiration for Where’d You Go Baby
Past Time ensures the high octaine approach continues. Past Time starts off with a glorious pick scrape, before morphing into a melodic riff filled stomper, with a huge sing-along chorus, that is just crying out to be sung at every gig the band plays from here on in. It’s the type of song that Blink-182 would be proud of and will go down a storm fans old and new.
I’ve Been Here sees the pace dropped, whilst still maintaining the bands trademark high energy guitar riffs, pounding drums, a deep thunderous bass line and capped off with a vocal full of raw energy. This is a track that would sound fantastic in stadiums and that is surely where The King Rooks are heading.
The King Rooks EP is a fantastic EP that showcases great musicianship, skill, raising the bar and expectations as to what The King Rooks can go on to achieve. The King Rooks are set for a big 2023 and beyond. Long live The King (Rooks).
