Shadows of a Silhouette are a 4-piece indie rock band hailing from Alfreton in Derbyshire consisting of Nathan Brown (lead guitar and vocals), Reece Carter (lead guitar) Fergus Murtagh (bass), and Tyler Henderson (drums).
Forming around 4 years ago, their music is influenced by their working class roots of Derby and take inspiration from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon and David Bowie.
Modern Age Blues is a highly personal song and was inspired by the bands lead guitarist battle with his mental health. Written on his 21st birthday, during a 3 week stint on a psychiatric ward, the track possesses relatable lyrics and describe a feeling that many people suffer with: Modern Age Blues.
With social media use continuing to grip the world, the track explores the bleak and modern age we find ourselves living in and only finding time to connect with people via social media. The lyrics long for those carefree days of childhood.
“Some days I feel just there’s no way that I can make it back to those childish days, when I wore that smile without an ounce of denial”
The track is built around a chiming acoustic guitar and crisp captivating lead riffs that drop in and out of the track.
The vocal is full of passion, emotion and you get taken on a journey of understanding and discovery of what a person dealing with mental health issues goes through.
Modern Age Blues oozes accomplished song writing and performed by fantastic musicians. This is a great single that will well and truly bring Shadows of a Silhouette to a wider audience. I can’t wait for the album.
Modern Age Blues is released on Friday 25th November and can be pre-saved here.
