Liverpool’s Jack Gill new release marks the start of an exciting new era.

The past 18 months have led to this moment for Jack Gill. With a trio of single releases, Jack is now set to release his stomping debut EP Devil Bar Blues on November 11, which celebrates the music that he has released during this period. Added into the mix is the addition of Sam, Charlie and Jay who form “The Overlook”.

Here’s the ThisIsTheMusic track by track preview.

Ballad of a 90s Kid was our introduction to Jack’s outstanding musicianship and storytelling lyrics. The track is an upbeat catchy rocknroll meets the blues stomper. It’s full of soaring guitar solos, pounding drums and a punchy bass line. The song is influenced by the blues, in particular the blues master Robert Johnson. The lyrics tell a short story on about a man who sold his soul to the devil.

“90s boy with a 60s mind, he never knew he reached these heights, paying his dues to rocknroll”

With Me sees Jack’s love of 70s classic rock shine through, with a modern twist. Straight away you are hit with a catchy drum beat, guitar hooks and a glorious harmonica solo, give the song a different sound to anything else that’s out there at the moment.

The chorus is really anthemic with the lyrics telling the tale of all the good times you can have if you come with me:

“Come fly with me, take a ride with me, see the stars with me”

Moonchild has a classic rocknroll sound and on release was my favourite Jack Gill song upon release (that title now belongs to Devil Bar Blues). The irresistible guitar hooks will get your feet taping and the hips shaking and has an anthemic vibe that is full of passion and backed with excellent production.

This captivating track features Fiona Lennon on backing vocals, and it’s her soulful voice that elevates the chorus and the song to heights that we had not previously heard on Jack’s releases.

“Moonchild, set me free, let me feel your energy, Moonchild shine on me, my good lady that’s you and me”

Devil Bar Blues hits you immediately with a sizzling wave of blues rock guitar riffs and rumbling bass lines that will have you instantly toe-tapping along. The lyrics are fantastic and reference enjoying life and taking opportunities as they are presented

“The world is yours boy, The world is yours to see, Take the leap my friend, Let everybody see”

The guitar solos throughout are soaring and give the song its drive and energy and gives a final showcase to the excellent musicianship that is on display across the EP.

Devil Bar Blues closes a chapter on Jack’s solo work and welcomes a new and exciting dawn of Jack Gill and The Overlook. There is plenty to admire across the four tracks which have plenty of drive and energy throughout and is sure to be a hit with fans old and new.

Devil Bar Blues is released on Friday 11th November and can be pre-saved here. There will also be a limited stock available from HMV in Liverpool.
