Welsh indie rockers, Jonny Ash, return with their catchy upbeat new single This Town.
Having left a large impression on the indie scene, with blistering rocknroll anthems including We Are The People and Boys With Black Eyes; and the sublime Disco, plus playing storming sets at the Wrexham Lager Open Air Festival and Liverpool’s EBGBS, the Welsh 4-piece return with their new single which paints a picture of their home town Wrexham.
Musically the track showcases a different side to Jonny Ash as the blistering guitar riffs have been temporarily scaled back to suit the narrative of the song with acoustic guitar, and their most poppiest sounding track yet.
With relatable lyrics and one of the catchiest melodies around, this track will resonate with anyone from a working class background.
The chorus lyrics portrays life in Wrexham and the struggles that people face on a daily basis (substitute any town for Wrexham and you’ll easily resonate with the lyrics).
“This Town, there’s a busker on every street, boarded windows, the patter of the feet, girls that are miserable, double chance in the watering hole”
However the upbeat chorus changes the complexion of the song and the pride that the boys have in living in Wrexham shines through.
“This town we call our own, this town will always be my home, I don’t care what was said, I’ll be here till I’m dead”
As part of the promotion of the track, the band have been providing a breakdown of the stories behind the songs artwork, which gives a real insight into daily life in Wrexham. If you’ve not seen those posts yet, I thoroughly recommend that you do as it builds up a backstory about the band.
This Town showcases a side we’ve not seen from Jonny Ash before. It still shows off the bands energy and spirit and their observational lyrics on modern life and fantastic story telling capabilities. This town cements Jonny Ash’s status as being one of the most exciting and sought after bands on the new music scene, it’s only a matter of time before they move onto big things.
This Town is released of Friday 7th October and can be pre saved here.
