THE ASTRAS: THE ASTRAS

Having formed in 2021, the rise of The Astras has been mightly impressive and shows the total belief that the band have in themselves.

Having released their anthemic debut single They Don’t Make These Tunes Any More in November 2021, and instead of following the usual pattern of a single release as the next release, they‘ve ripped up the the rule book and released one of the EPs of the year.

The self-titled EP, sees the Coventry  5-piece release an anthemic debut, full of melodic riffs and catchy choruses that will leave you wanting more.

The opening track Roll, (a ThisIsTheMusic song of the day) is an exciting riff filled pounding Rocknroll banger and is a superb way to kick off the EP. It‘s high on energy, that will be a real crowd pleaser when played live. Roll sets the tone for what’s to come over the remaining songs.

So I’m Told is a upbeat and energetic track that is driven by a catchy lead guitar riff that is uniquely The Astras that will instantly grab your attention and is backed up with a bouncing drum fill and is a superb track.

Call It A Night has an early Arctic Monkeys vibe, thanks to the driving lead guitar riff. The track tells a relatable tale of having had a night out on the town, trying to work out when to “call it a night“ and avoid any aggro. The song is packed with pure emotion and energy and is a great anthem.

In This Field grabs your attention immediately and is packed full of energy. The song starts off as a fast playing acoustic guitar before being joined by atmospheric guitar riffs. The chorus is anthemtic and sings about “having the time of your lives“ The vocal has a bit of a snarl about it like Liam Gallagher, whilst maintaining it‘s own style.

Blue Haired Queen starts off with a hypnotic lead guitar riff before big crashing drums and thumping bass lines combine, giving a massive wall of sound that will blow you away. There’s a real punky garage rock vibe to this song and it reminds me of  Palma Violets in terms it’s spirit and high energy.

Speaking with Dan Murphy the bands lead guitarist, he said “It’s been a long time coming for us to release this EP. Through a difficult time at the beginning of the year with a line-up change, it pushed the release back. Looking to the future we are excited to release the EP after how well the songs have been received at gigs. At this point we’re exited to showcase the EP live up and down the country”

The EP is packed full of anthems, fantastic melodic riffs, catchy solos and passionate vocals. This EP is amongst the contenders for EP of the year and will leave you wanting more from a band that I’m tipping for a big future.

The Astras debut EP is available to download and stream on all of the usual platforms.
