Paul Askew is a solo artist from Liverpool. Having previously been in a band called The Callers, who disbanded due to the pandemic and the chaotic scenes that seemed to follow the band about, Paul decided to go solo and his new double A-side single Connie and Isabella represents his 5th and best release to date.
Connie has a distinct intro with the song being built around it‘s thumping bass line. Lyrically this song is a love letter to the person that you love and has a real 60s pop vibe going on which I think is great.
Isabella has a garage rock vibe going on and is quite dark in places. The song starts off with a driving bass line and is supported throughout the song with punchy guitar riffs. The song has a anthemtic vibe about it, which when you consider the lyrical content of the song, is a letter to the ex, and is possibly a surprising thing to say for a heartbreak song.
Paul’s passion for songwriting really shines through on these tracks and with him now securing more gigs in Liverpool, it’s only a matter of time before this passion is heard across the rest of the UK and beyond.
Paul’s new double single is released on Friday 29th July and can be pre-saved here.
