Derby 4-piece release EP full of classic indie anthems!

Having formed in late 2021, The Public Eye have quickly established a high work ethic which through relentless gigging and releasing 4 singles in just 6 months, have amassed over 65,600 streams on Spotify alone. One of those singles Blue Notefeatures on In The Out Building.

Across the EP, the influence of the early 00s indie scene can be heard, but the Eye have well and truly stamped their own mark across each and every track. One of the things that is evident on each song is despite only forming at the end of 2021, is the bands utter confidence in what they are doing and through relentless gigging how tight they sound.

Blue Note comes racing out of the starting blocks and the tone for what is to come across the 5 tracks. Blue Note is driven by thumping bass line, pounding drums and catchy guitar riffs: the guitar solo ahead of the songs outro is sublime and one of the highlights of Blue Note. There‘s an early Arctic Monkeys vibe to the lyrics and the vocal delivery and is a great way to start off the EP.

The Public Eye: In The Out Building g

In The Out Building keeps the energy high and is driven by pounding drums that are a joy to behold. The vocal is sublime and emotive. The song is about love and distant memories, a subject that we can all relate to.

I may be wrong, but I can’t recall a band using the word snakebite in a song title, so just for that alone you should listen to Late Nights and Snakebites.  This has a great melody and energy to it and it’s a real anthem with a nod to having nights out and lots of fun. The chorus lyrics “playing my rhythms, under the deep black stars, under the covers touching each others hearts“ are fantastic and add to the songs theme of love and being young.

The Feelings Coming Round Again, sees the tempo slowed down. It‘s really emotive and explores the feelings of love and the emotion that goes with it. It has a great melody, with solid bass lines, The outro caught me by surprise as it had a sudden injection of pace that further shows the confidence within the band to try something (and pull off) different to anyone else out there.

Saturday Morning is really tight, full of melody and backed with epic guitar riffs, a great drum beat and pounding bass lines. It‘s a real uplifting track and lyrically is about the morning after the night before.

In short, In The Out Building is a fantastic EP, full of indie anthems that will stand the test of time and see The Public Eye be in the mix for EP of the year!
