The Shop Window are set to release their brand new single Eyes Wide Shut on Friday 24th June, which is set to be the bands third single ahead of the second album due for release in late summer 22.

Eyes Wide Shut sees The Shop Window on tip-top form, with its catchy uplifting melody and crisp jangly guitar work that will have you tapping your feet in an instant.

The song features several key changes, most notably ahead of the final chorus, which sees the song stripped back to a banging drum beat  and atmospheric guitars that slowly build before a fuzzy distorted-ness of a guitar solo, that pins the song firmly to Brit-Jangly-Pop mast.

The band have also released a B-Side, called Low, which will be included in the album, and is a song full of hope and love.

Both tracks feature guest backing vocals by Beth Arzy (label mate from Jetstream Pony and The Luxembourg Signal).

Speaking to frontman Carl about the track he said;

‘Eyes Wide Shut’ came about in an unusual way for us, Syd sent me an acapella of a vocal melody and lyrics he had come up with. I put it in our ideas folder and almost forgot about it. We had pretty much finished the songs for album two when I found I had some free time. So I dug out Syd’s acapella and started playing around with it. The vocal parts basically worked over the same 3 chords all the way through, I changed one of the chorus chords for a slightly different feel. Once I found a rhythm groove, the song came together quickly, the jangly guitar lines followed instantly. A few tweaks to the verse vocal phrasing and a change in approach to the chorus vocal melody and it was all done in a morning”

Regarding the lyrics Syd said:

“Lyrically ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ is about secret crushes; that sense of being a little bit in love with someone from afar but knowing that for one reason or another you’ll never be able to share your secrets. It’s feeling the energy of that spark, the excitement of knowing someone is alive and in the world but that it will ultimately never happen. Wondering if they have felt it too and looking for those subtle signs that maybe you’ve connected on some level”.

If the three singles released so far are anything to go by, then the bands forthcoming second album is going to be a belter.

Eyes Wide Shut is released on Friday 24th June and is available on 7” vinyl here via independent label Spinout Nuggetsas well as all of the usual streaming and download platforms.
