South Yorkshire 4-piece set to release highly anticipated debut EP

For Civic Green, there was a level of expectation after sharing outstanding tracks A Million Little Pieces and Nowhere Close and their debut EP Sailing The River, passes and exceeds those expectations.

The EP is fantastic from start to finish, full of anthems and no nonsense lyrics, which will be relatable to many.

With its anthemic and uplifting vibe A Million Little Pieces is a great way to start of the bands debut EP. Starting off with a lone acoustic guitar,  it soon explodes into life, with a hint of guitar feedback, an epic guitar riff, bouncing drums and an orchestra, which sounds amazing. This is a song that will be chanted back to the band at every live gig from here on in.

Followed by Nothing In My Way which is driven by the songs bouncing bass line that morphs into the sort of swaggering stadium anthem that defined Oasis.

Civic Green:

Nowhere Close was the bands most recent single and it’s one of the highlights of the EP. Full of catchy guitar riffs and driven by pounding drums, this song wouldn’t have sounded out of place in the early naughties. Look out for the soaring chorus:

“Maybe the stars can’t shine today, maybe the clouds can go away, maybe the sun can break on through, maybe this world ain’t after you”

Surrender sees the pace and tempo drop, but still features what is fast becoming the bands trademark: a soaring chorus. The song exhibits catchy, guitar driven indie rock and will surely  be the bands lighter in the air (or should that be phones in the air?) moment when played live.

The Writings On The Wall starts off slowly and features a huge drum beat, before the tempo starts to build and it devlops into that classic album closer. Full of soaring guitar riffs, great harmonies and the subtle hint of an orchestra, this is exactly the type of anthem that all bands should have in their catalogue.

In summary, Sailing The River is one of the best debut EPs I’ve ever heard. It’s refreshingly honest, full of soaring riffs and big singalong choruses that will soon be belted out across the UK and beyond. This EP is all thriller and no filler and well and truly puts Civic Green on the map!

Sailing The River is released on Friday 17th June and is available to buy on CD or vinyl here.  Alternatively, it will be available to stream and download across all of the usual platforms.
