Rising Manchester stars set to release new single
Having seen their EP, Deeper Than Holy, secure number 1 on the UK vinyl chart on its release, Manchester 5 piece, Pastel are back with the lead single from their upcoming EP, Sophomore, due for release in September
Isaiah, is an emotive reflection of a tumultuous upbringing, that encapsulates everything that Pastel excel at.
Completed by Joe Anderson (lead guitar), Liam O’Shea (bass) and Rhys Wheeler (drums), Pastel recorded Isaiah with producer J. Fender (frontman of Afflecks Palace and founder of the Spirit of Spike Island label). It was mixed by James Kenosha and then mastered by John Davis (The Killers, Foals, IDLES) at Metropolis in London.
The song is a hazy shoegazing masterpiece, with intricate guitar hooks and sonorous strings, demonstrating that they are willing to push their anthemtic sound into different avenues and to unlock their potential even further.
“We had pretty tough childhoods, surrounded by drug addiction. Sadness, madness and badness. ‘Isaiah’ wasn’t actually written with any of that in mind, but our feelings seem to have soaked through us into the song subconsciously. Sometimes when you’re deep in hard times you become numb to it all. ‘I can feel nothing more, in this life that I’ve suffered for.’ But this tune is not about wallowing in self-pity. It’s about using our experiences as motivation; having some hope and self-belief!”

Isaiah is a superb tune and brings the spirit and sound of shoegazing right back into the mainstream and will be the soundtrack the summer!
Isaiah is released on Friday 13th May and can be pre-saved here. Here it first on May 12th on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show.
Pastels are supporting the legend Liam Gallagherat his iconic Knebworth gig on 3rd June. In addition, they are playing two headline slots in May at 33 Oldham Street in Manchester and Stockton KU Bar, both dates are sold out.
They have also got a string of support slots with label mates Afflecks Palace in July, before headlining the Leeds leg of This Feeling‘s Rewired festival and appearing alongside Miles Kane at The Boof Festival.
