Kids is the brand new single from Hartlepool’s Michael Gallagher and it’s a raucous and anthemic indie rock classic.
Focusing on writing about real life, Kids, as the title suggests, is about being young and not knowing what you want to do as you get older, with a message of whatever you want to do, go and do it.
The opening verses are stripped back, to just Michael’s vocal and guitar, giving the song an atmospheric and dreamy feel. As we hit the bridge, an Arcade Fire inspired pounding drum and bass kick-in, adding further layers to the song, before a rocknroll yelp, and an explosive outro including soaring guitar solos and frantic piano playing which provides a great link to the next verse.
The lyrics are both inspirational and liberating, offering hope to the youth of today:
“It’s obscene, Kids living life with no dreams, Being told how there to be, And that everything is out of reach, I just wanna say, go get it!”
Having performed alongside The Sherlocks and Andrew Cushin on their tours, as well as playing a 3 date headline tour in December 2021; the Isle of Wight Festival and two sold out hometown shows at the start of 2022; Kids further cements, Gallagher’s rapidly rising reputation of being a naturally talented songwriter.
