THE RIVERS – EP PREVIEW

Long Road From Nowhere, the new 5 song EP from South Wales 4-piece  The Rivers is a masterpiece.

This EP represents the bands first EP release since 2019s Life In General and it’s well worth the wait.

Call is an energetic track, full of great guitar riffs, powerful vocals and pounding drums. The drop in tempo in the middle eight of the song, before building up and exploding into life is mesmerising.

Halfcut, the lead single, is a punchy indie rocker full of epic guitar hooks and pounding drums. I‘m sure that this song will be a live favourite amongst an ever growing fan base. Lyrically the song explores those drunken nights out, having regrets, but getting back out the next night and do it all again.

“Someone please get me out of here, cos you’re halfcut already”

The title track, Long Road From Nowhere, has got my favourite drumming on the EP. The song is reflecting on a relationship nearing its end. There’s a real Catfish and the Bottlemen feel about this song.

Persevere picks up where Long Road From Nowhere finishes. It reflects on all of the highs of the relationship and having a rethink about it ending and pondering whether you should persevere with the relationship.

“I don’t want the end no, that’s clear to see”

Tough Time For Dreamers is an acoustic solo offering from frontman Dan Hewitt acoustic track. The vocal is really heartfelt and emotional and shows a vulnerable side not seen in the other track. This has a real Catfish and the Bottlemen vibe and this will be the bands lighters in the air moment.

Long Road From Nowhere is a fantastic EP, with relatable lyrics, catchy melodies and the sound of a band with the confidence and belief in where they are going.

Ones to watch in 2021 and beyond.
