Saturday 7th August 2021, will forever be etched in the minds of ThisIsTheMusic, not just because it was the first gig I’d been to in 15 months, but because it re-confirmed what I already knew: that Lock-In are the real deal and are going straight to the top.
Headlining the world famous Water Rats, the gig sold out in 6 hours and marked the bands first live gig, (excluding live streams), Lock-In played a phenomenal and triumphant set featuring 10 songs, including first single release Teenager, crowd favourite Get Over It (which to date has amassed over 75k streams on Spotify since its release) and all 4 tracks from recently released EP Boys Kiss Boys (20k streams since release).

The bands tightness and confidence was evident throughout, with the crowd ensuring they enjoyed every minute of the set with a mass of bodies dancing/moshing and smiling together feeding into the energy of the gig and at one point were joined by frontman Benjy with his own stage dive (which he’d predicted to this writer pre-gig).
Having become an immediate fan of Lock-In when they released Teenager in September 2020, it was great to get to meet and chat to the band (apart from our podcast) and witness them in a small venue: they won’t be playing these types of venues for very long and have the songs, confidence and swagger to break into the mainstream and become your new favourite band.
Check out our Instagram page for some live clips of Lock-in’s set including: Teenager, I Got Feelings Get Over It Rosy Cheeks and Yours Sincerely.

Support on the night came from Manchester’s Garden Party who played an energetic and rapturous set including Better (Than You) and In The Middle. The band also took the opportunity to showcase a couple of ballads, one of which has been earmarked as the bands next single: release date to be confirmed.
Megan Wyn a singer songwriter from Wales, kicked off the night with a great set, showcasing her brilliant vocal range: she really is a star in the making. Her set included a couple of covers from Arctic Monkeys, Blossoms and Oasis as well as debut single Polaroid which sparked a mass singalong.
