LOCK-IN: BOYS KISS BOYS EP

London based indie -pop band Lock-In are one of the most talked about bands of 2021 and, with the release of their debut EP “Boys Kiss Boys” on Friday 16th July, are set to propel themselves into the mainstream and become one of the defining bands of their (my) generation.

Boys Kiss Boys consists of four tracks, addressing social questions and opposition that they have faced to date and breaking down these barriers.

I Caught Feelings is the lead single and has amassed over 4.5k streams on Spotify since release and is full of jangly guitars and bouncing beats, discussing friendship and love. The song is really energetic, with the outro featuring an mini a-Capella moment from Benjy, showcasing his great vocal before the songs builds into a crescendo of noise, with the vocal harmonises giving the impression that the band are having the time of their lives.

“Your My Little Treasure, Where Have You Been?”

Know The Score starts off with a build up of bass and guitar before a classic and soaring guitar riff and vocal kick in. The bouncing drum beat builds the tempo up as we hit the chorus. The song tells the story of meeting a girl on a night out and over the course of a few hours, getting to know the girl, who after enjoying her night leaves the boy at the door and goes home with someone else. A scenario that will be relatable to many. The guitar riff from lead guitarist, Paddy in the outro is epic and backed with the rhythm section of Angus, Ollie and Sam gives the song a real soulful groove.

“If you mug me off, then leave me at the door, I won’t come back and beg for more, we are done and we’re no more”

“I remember when we met, I know the score!”

No Time To Decide is a real energetic track and starts off with a single electric guitar before a monumental guitar riff gives the song a funk vibe and a sound similar to The Style Council. The song bounces along before a cheeky key change comes to the fore and moves the song in a different direction and includes  a horn section which adds to the funkiness of the song. The song is pretty much a reaction to the previous song “Know the Score” and basically says, everything will be ok, as long as I’ve got my friends around me.

“Meet me down Queens I’ll be there at 8”

Yours Sincerely, is an up-tempo energetic song with a fuzzy guitar riff that gets stuck in your head instantly. Another great piece of story telling, which picks up where “No Time To Decide” finished. The lyrics, tell the story of a night out and meeting a girl, and then having to deal with the aftermath of the morning after the night before and it all getting a bit awkward and realising that you‘ll never meet again. The last “let’s get going baby” is snarled out and just adds to the boys disappointment at how the night ended. The soaring guitar riff in the outro just re-confirms the songs energetic and up-beat feel.

“The smokin’ area sounds like a party”

Boys Kiss Boys, is a vibrant, fun and era defining EP, which is full of relatable anthems, lyrics and is full of swagger; Lock-In are a band to watch and I can’t wait to watch them get right to the top.

Boys Kiss Boys is released on Friday 16th July and is available to pre-save here.
