We caught up with Rob to discuss Isolation, inspiration for the Isolation artwork, musical influences and plans on the horizon for new music,
ThisIsTheMusic (TITM): Hi Rob, firstly thanks for agreeing to ThisIsTheMusic interviewing you. Please introduce yourself.
Rob: Thank you very much Mark. I appreciate it. I’m a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. Currently I’ve been promoting my most recent release, Isolation. I am also busy working on it’s follow up. All news, updates, and so on can be found at: http://robfrank.ca/
TITM: What first got you into music?
Rob: Music has always been a big part of my life. It was always present. Consistently having that exposure and associating songs with memories or events, I think that’s what really put the foundation in place for how I got into music. As I got older picking up an instrument and starting to learn, just seemed like the natural next step.
TITM: Who are your musical influences?
Rob: Growing up I listened to anything and everything. I still do. I don’t think I could give an accurate list. For every one I mention I know I’d be accidentally omitting two.

TITM: How would you describe your music?
Rob: Unique, authentic, and hopefully, enjoyable.
TITM: Your most recent release was the Isolation EP. What’s your favourite song from this record?
Rob: That answer can change depending when I’m asked and what kind of mood I’m in. Currently I’d say Some Days or Dark Angel.
TITM: What was the inspiration for the Isolation EP artwork?
Rob: The idea or concept for the art was that I wanted it to reflect the title. That it would give an impression of what these songs are about. I believe it achieves that. Originally I put some concept ideas together and then brought those to Daniela Camacho. We talked it through, made sure we were aligned, and she came back with the finished design you see on the album. I think it turned out very well.
TITM: What’s your favourite venue to play?
Rob: I’d have to say The Brass Monkey (Ottawa), Algonquin Commons Theatre (Ottawa), & The Coulson NightClub (Sudbury), are some great venues to play.
TITM: What’s next for you? Are you planning on returning to the live gig circuit? Have you got plans for any new music?
Rob: The vaccine rollout is coming along and hopefully that will continue. When it’s appropriate, live gig’s will happen. New music is currently in the works. It shouldn’t be long before something new can be heard. I’m looking forward to that.
TITM: If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 albums would you bring?
Rob: Being stuck on a desert island sounds just awful. Let’s go with Meddle by Pink Floyd, the Tron legacy Soundtrack by Daft Punk, and Use Your Illusion II by GNR.
TITM: Any messages for your fans?
Rob: Just that I sincerely appreciate that you enjoy or connect with something I have done. Thank you for the support, and hopefully you’ll enjoy other releases as they become available.
